Before KitchenPrint™
At Egelund Slot, the kitchen makes everything from scratch and takes great care with its ingredients. That means lots of tubs to label every day. Before KitchenPrint™ it worked like in most kitchens: masking tape on the counter, a marker and small manila tags with a rubber band around the tub.
“The rubber bands snap, and the masking tape goes soft from condensation. Then the tags end up all over the place in the fridges.”
And then there was the handwriting. “I write like a kindergarten kid,” says Kim. “My handwriting just isn't easy to read – especially when things are moving fast.”
How they use it today
In the kitchen at Egelund Slot, the tablet is mounted on the wall with the printer right next to it. The chef picks the item, the label comes out, and the tub goes into the fridge with a date on it.
Items are sorted into groups such as dairy and preserves, so the chefs quickly find what they need. When many labels are needed for the same product, they print several at once. And chefs who aren't strong spellers can simply talk to the tablet.
When the kitchen makes jam, cordial or baskets of biscuits with a recipe for guests to take home, the products get a label with a full ingredient list.
“It's so easy to onboard that everyone can learn it. It's plug and play.”
What it has meant
Everyone can read the label
“Nobody is in any doubt that when you've made vanilla ice cream, it's vanilla ice cream.”
The labels stay on
“They stick well – in the freezer too. I can trust the label to stay put.”
Help when it's needed
“If something comes up, we call, and there's service straight away.”
“It's simply the easiest system there is. I can't understand why everyone isn't using it.”
